My work on Data Driven Nonprofits is starting to take shape. I have been trying to get into a rhythm and schedule during the holidays to get things moving.
Right now, I'm very focused on writing the first section of the book. It's important to identify the problems faced by the nonprofit sector and the key role that data plays in helping to solve it. Like any good story, introducing the villain early on helps to setup the rest of the tale.
For now, the second section of the book is going to be all about the transformation it takes to become a data driven nonprofit. This will be a mix of both practical advice and mixing in interviews that I'm conducting with people across the nonprofit sector.
I also have a hefty backlog of topics that I want to cover, but need to decide along the way where they best help the reader. They range from understanding the basics of statistics to how to take the first steps towards being more data driven.
I've also turned to tools that I've used in product design, like Trello, to help me keep track of all the moving parts. My growing pile of notes and references are getting out of hand, so I've started using Microsoft OneNote to keep track of them on my phone and MacBook.
Ok, back to writing for now. Stay tuned...
